MUMBAI: A 22-year-old youth has been abusing, harassing and threatening his father, who works abroad, for the last few months day in and day out.
According to a written complaint submitted to the Amboli police in Suburban Mumbai, a youth Sohail Khalid Ansari, residing at Trombay and his mother have been accused of allegedly trying to extort Rs 80,000/- per month from their father and even threatened to kill him if the money was not paid regularly. For the last 23-odd years, since his marriage Ansari who works as craftsman abroad has been supporting his wife and kids with nearly Rs 60,000 to Rs 70,000 each month. However, the family ties broke down since the last five months, when the mother and son began making unrealistic monetary demands and even began threatening him with death, if he did not fulfill their monthly financial demands.
According to the complaint by Khalid Ansari, he has been regularly paying and supporting his wife and family over the years. However, there was some property dispute over a premises, which Khalid Ansari had transferred in his wife’s name and his wife was trying to sell it behind his back. The complaint states that his wife rented the room on a high deposit and did not share the details of the transaction with her husband.
In the complaint, Khalid mentioned that his wife and son have been abusing him and his sister for the last four months with very vulgar language and have threatened to kill him and his sister.
“They want me to give them minimum amount of Rs 70 to 80,000 per month at any cost. My wife has taken over possession and custody of two rooms, the charges which I paid for, from my hard-earned money. I am a jewellery worker and working day and night, doing double shifts and they are just spending and splurging on my money. For the last 2-3 months, I was going through financial problems due to some previous loans and debts and was not able to give them the money they demanded and my son threatened to kill me if I did not pay them,” Khalid has said in his complaint. The complaint also mentions that both son and mother have been threatening Khalid’s sister who has been helping him during his financial crisis.
The complaint has been submitted at the Amboli police station along with other evidence, including recordings of the abusive, threatening and vulgar phone calls by the son and wife of the complainant. To add to the complainant’s woes, his wife consumed some unknown substance and tried to fake a suicide attempt, resulting in further harassment to the beleaguered worker.
Police are investigating the case and looking into the complaints, it is learnt.
