NEW DELHI: Dr Sonal Parihar, a world-renowned gynec, as well as a Mrs Earth title holder, is a special invitee this year to the Cannes Film Festival to be held in mid-May. She will be attending most of the main events and film screenings at Cannes as well as other related film and fashion events held in the vicinity of the main film festival and will adorn various outfits at the Cannes events.

This particular couture piece is a dialogue between the fading soul of hand craftsmanship and the growing dominance of machine-made fashion.

Presented by Dr. Sonal Parihar — gynecologist, former Mrs India Earth, and a woman devoted to serving the nation — this ensemble carries a message beyond fashion.

The corset is created using discarded computer parts from embroidery machinery, symbolizing the rise of automated production and replicated artistry. In contrast, the wooden hoops surrounding the shoulders are inspired by traditional embroidery frames used by Indian artisans for generations — representing heritage, patience, and the human touch behind every stitch.

Through this look, we aim to highlight how excessive dependence on machine-made fashion is slowly diminishing the value of handcrafted art and affecting the livelihoods of countless artisans. This creation is a reminder to preserve India’s rich craft heritage by choosing conscious fashion that values artistry, culture, and the hands behind the work.

Presented at the Cannes Film Festival, this ensemble celebrates craftsmanship as something timeless, rare, and deeply human.

It is designed by Prashik Pushplata Sukhnandan and Ineet Randhawa with the fabulous team of Deepak Kumar, Ayushika Gupta, Diya Beniwal, Kavya Nainwal, Prachi Singh, Palak Maiyya, Nancy, Dilpreet, and Gurkirat from the Fashion Design Department at the Chandigarh University under the guidance of Dr. Shalini Gaur.
